Ready Rabbit and Art Rolnick, Director of Research at the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis, made a repeat appearance on Day Two of the "Economic Development Through Early Childhood Investment" forum. This time, they were in Stamford at the Dolan School of Business at Fairfield University and boy, were they in good company! Nearly one hundred people, including many representatives of the business community, attended the event. Ready helped to highlight Mr. Rolnick's comments about the relationship between quality, affordable, and accessible early childhood education and economic growth, which are based on his report entitled [8] Early Childhood = Economic Development.
In addition to Mr. Rolnick's remarks, Lt. Gov. M. Jodi Rell reiterated her support for early childhood education and asked for a plan to make this opportunity a reality for Connecticut families. Judy Greiman, president of the Connecticut Conference for Independent Colleges, served as master of ceremonies and moderated a distinguished response panel that included Dr. Janis Hadley, president of Housatonic Community College; Mary-Jane Foster of Freeborn Investors; David Nee, executive director of the William Caspar Graustein Memorial Fund; and Diane G. Farrell, first selectwoman of Westport.
Sponsors for the event included the Connecticut Conference of Independent Colleges; SACIA, The Business Council of Southwestern Connecticut; the Bridgeport Regional Business Council; the Bridgeport Economic Development Corporation; United Way of Eastern Fairfield County; Bridgeport Child Advocacy Coalition; and Ready, Set, Grow…CT Kids!
Special Note: The United Way of Eastern Fairfield County kicked off their Success by Six program at this event and as a result, panelist Mary-Jane Foster was subsequently named as co-chair of this incredible program.
Gov. Rell and Art Rolnick's remarks are captured [9] On the Record.
