October 2004

On October 14, the Middletown School Readiness Council held a special reception for Senator Thomas Gaffey to thank him for expanding the School Readiness program in their community. Ready Rabbit was eager to meet the senator and show his appreciation for Senator Gaffey's commitment to young children. [4] Click here to read more about this in the Middletown Press.

April 2004

On April 16 during the “Week of the Young Child”, Middletown kicked off recruitment for their “Middletown Children’s Posse” and Ready Rabbit was there to help.

Through the leadership of Christine Fahey and the Middletown School Readiness Council, Middletown Children’s Champions have dubbed themselves the "Middletown Children's Posse". The Children’s Posse seeks to enlist at least 500 Middletown Friends to agree to become part of an electronic mailing list and receive alerts about important issues that affect children, and pledge to respond to the alerts with one action - one phone call, one e-mail, or one letter to a state or federal legislator urging action. This commitment to action also qualifies them as a "Children's Champion" and they are highlighted on this website.

Among the hundreds of Friends in Middletown, is Mayor Dominique Thornton and School Superintendent Carol Parmelee-Blancato. "I am pleased to tell you that I have signed on as a Friend," said Mayor Thornton. "I testify regularly in Hartford in support of a wide range of issues facing young children and their families."

"We need a big Posse," said Betsy Morgan, chair of the School Readiness Council, "to ride to the rescue of children who desperately need our help. Strap on your six-shooter!"
